Advice On ferret litter pans

I bought several of these. My ferrets past away some years ago but I found that their old litter pan was a great nesting box for my chickens. So I have purchased 6 more and put them in the coop. They are a good size, keep the eggs from getting pushed out and easy to clean.

Young Ferret Litter Box Training Question!?
I have a male ferret that is about 4 months old. The pet store told me that all the ferrets were already liter box trained but when I got my ferret home he did not use the liter ferret litter pans box provided. I thought well maybe he is just nervous but its been going on for 2 weeks. He also digs in the liter and makes a huge mess in the cage so i am not able to put the liter box back in the cage. So he just goes anywhere he wants. Ive tried to put him in the box after he goes but he just digs in it until all the liter is gone. Then ignores it until I refill the pan! Is there a way to help my ferret understand this rule?
Like all other living beings on this planet, ferrets too have the need to relieve themselves of toxins and waste from the body. If you have a ferret as a house pet then you can train the animal to use a ferret litter pan. This training is not difficult as ferrets are very receptive animals. During the initial stages of the training the ferret may have a few accidents; this is acceptable. Positive reinforcement is the best way to ensure that the animal learns to use the litter pan quickly.
Ferrets, like cats do not begin to use their litter pans immediately and they need to be lured into using it. Owners must refrain from physical punishment like stubbing the nose of the ferret litter pans ferret if they are not receptive to the litter training. Harming the animal physically will lead to the animal forming a negative association with humans and resort to biting and getting violent.
Ferret litter pan training is extremely important in order to maintain hygiene. Training your ferret to litter in their own personal litter space will also help keep the animal healthy. It is extremely important to start litter training your ferret at a very young age they are more receptive to learning at this stage.
One of the easiest ways to train a ferret to use a litter pan is to confine the animal to a small enclosure like a cage or an animal pen. Make specific areas in the cage for the ferret to eat, sleep and litter. Use tricks to help the ferret to understand these specific areas.
You can also train the ferret to use a bathroom in the house. This is difficult if the ferrets are very young. However as they grow older they get curious and will learn to litter outside the cage. Place the litter pan in the bathroom and use litter pellets in the box. This will lure the animal to using the bathroom. The key to successful litter training is to not clean the litter box completely. The scent of the litter will help the ferret to understand when it can relieve itself.
Ferret owners need to be very patient when dealing with ferret potty training.
