It arrived on time; however, was a little smaller than I imagined. The picture shows that 3 critters can fit inside of it, but neither of my guineas will fit. But my guinea peanut butter uses it as a pillow and absolutely loves it!

Ferrets are playful and curious little creatures which are as lovable as a dog or a cat. They are very active and so they tend to get bored easily. Ferret houses require a lot of care when buying and making to make it as interesting as possible for the ferret to stay in it without getting bored. A ferret will require a comfortable bed, treats, play things and litter boxes for the it to enjoy its home.

Ferrets love to live life king-size so it is important to build their houses in decks. They love to run around in its cage, so the cage should be spacious enough. Normal ferret houses must measure 18 inches by 30 inches by 36 inches. This measurement is to make a cage for a single ferret or a pair. The ferret ferret bed houses must have at least two levels which are fully equipped and proves to be comfortable for your pet.

Cleanliness is very important to them and they keep themselves and their house clean. They prefer decked up houses which must also be manually cleaned. An ideal house must contain a water bottle, dry foods, litter pan, toys and if possible a hammock for your pet. Ferret houses may also have a pet deodorizing spray to prevent any smell from coming into the house.

Never buy your pet a glass aquarium as it reduces the air that enters the house. Get wire cages or hard plastic cages for your pet. Multi-storied cages are readily available and get it for your pet if possible. Check the wire openings before buying. They must be 1 inch by 1 inch and must not have any sharp edges.

Square litter pans are better than cornered ones because they tend to keep all four feet in the pan when using the litter pan. Litter pans may be kept at the lower level of the ferret house. Fill it with old newspaper pellets as litter.

Ferrets live in a burrow and this natural instinct forces them to burrow in the cage. Provide with lots of soft bedding like old T-shirts, baby blankets as ferret bedding. Keep toys and treats inside the cage so that your ferret will enjoy its new cage. Avoid latex and bean filled toys.

Ferrets cannot survive in hot temperature so make sure your ferret houses are placed away from direct sunlight.

My ferret loves these and they are the only ferret treats she likes. They smell like real peanut butter. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the hydrogenated oils in them, but I’m sure they need it to keep their freshness. It’s probably less expensive to use real peanut butter as a treat, but these are convenient to have on hand and you can take them with you. Especially handy if you plan to travel with your pet.

I live in kelowna, b.c., supplies for ferrets canada. where are the best places to shop for ferrets and ferret supplies? are there any ferret breeders around?

Ferrets are very interesting animals but pet ferret care may be very different from what you are used to with cats, dogs, hamster and other pets. Ferrets have been domesticated but they still adhere to a lot of their natural or wild behavior. For example most ferrets will sleep during the day and then become active at dawn and dusk.

It will do you a great deal of good to find out as much information about feeding ferrets as you can, as ferrets have a very different diet than most indoor pets. Ferrets are carnivores—that means that most plants hold absolutely no nutritional value for them. They also digest their food quite fast, and it will be your responsibility to make sure that the food your ferret receives is full of the energy supplies for ferrets he needs.

Ferret food that is high in protein, fat and low in fiber is the best. You should never feed your ferret any other food then food specifically designed for ferrets as the nutrition will be all wrong. You also always need to have food for the ferret available at all times.

Ferrets can be trained to use the litter box, however you shouldn’t expect it to be as easy as training a cat, who has more of an instinct for litter than a ferret. Make sure that the litter is easy to access, and when cleaning it, try to leave a little bit of used litter in, so that the ferret associates that area as “the potty.” Also, make sure that the food and sleeping areas have their own distinct section of the cage. Ferret cages should be kept in a general state of tidiness.

Ferrets can naturally have a musky odor and no amount of cleaning will make it go away so just get used to your pet. Most recommended that you give your ferret an occasional bath but don't overdo it. If you bathe your ferret too much it might make the glands start producing more oil and the scent can become overpowering.

Ferret ownership can be very rewarding, but you must be prepared for the responsibilities of owning one. Make sure that you research all of the ferret pet supplies that you will need, as well as eating and behavioral habits. It is even a good idea to look into the diseases and various conditions that ferrets are prone to and set up a regular vet schedule for check-ups.
