Ferrets require a special kind of diet. While most people think of dog or cat food as basics, it is best to study which foods are right for ferrets. As of the present, a surge in the number of ferret enthusiasts brought about certain changes. This includes the availability of food choices meant specifically for ferrets. Moreover, even a number of ferret treats or snacks are being made available today.
Ferrets are lovely pets and they are also known as keen eaters. They tend to nibble on anything and enjoy every snack and treat. However, a pet owner needs to understand that every food item comes with certain risks. There is nothing wrong about giving your pets some form of ferret treats. On the other hand, it is ill-advised to proceed with giving them basically anything.
The following are top samples of ferret treats.
1. Meat-based cat or ferret food
2. Boiled eggs
3. Cooked meat pieces
4. Cooked fish
5. Liver flavored cat food
6. Organ meats like liver
7. Vitamin supplements
8. Freeze-dried muscle meats
9. Fruits
10. Sweets
As a general rule, it is best to understand that ferret treats should be given moderately. A few servings of their favorite snack are advisable, especially if you want to reward your pet. Other food items like sugary-based products and dairy are sometimes offered to ferrets. However, these snacks, if given in large quantities, could lead to diarrhea and other illnesses.
Snacks are not really bad for ferrets. Just make sure that you give them everything in moderation and not excessively. It is also recommended to study and ask your veterinarian about possible ferret treats. Since you do not want to risk the health more so the life of your ferret pet.
Normally, ferrets have the tendency to become picky eaters. They can easily get used to something if such is given regularly. As a ferret owner, you have to be able to monitor the diet and your pet’s eating ways, for it is only through constant monitoring where you can give them the best food choices.
There are also a number of foods advisable for ferrets. Instead of relying heavily on ferret treats, it is wiser to complement their daily diet with added minerals and vitamins. Fortified ferret foods are very much available in the market. The days when you have to feed your pet with dog food is finally numbered. Thanks to the many sources and possible ideas for ferret food, snacks and treats.
