We are no strangers to related stories about ferrets. In fact, ferret owners make it a point to share their valuable experiences with their precious pets. They want to be able to encourage and persuade people to be kinder and more appreciative of ferrets. Besides, there is nothing about these domestic pets that can actually prevent us from not liking them in the first place. For new enthusiasts, one of their main concerns is ferret food and dietary requirement. They usually ask what do ferrets eat and where on earth can you get these supplies namely vitamins and supplements.
Before we proceed with the list of food items, there are certain things that you have to learn about ferrets. First, ferrets are not rodents or agricultural pests. Historically, they are known to drive rabbits out of their burrows but clearly identifying them as rodents in unnecessary. Second, ferrets are domestic pets and like other animals, they require special attention and conform to a particular diet. Their intestinal tract is shorter, which is why we have to keep a list of every food essential and tip.
What do ferrets eat? Below are some of the highly-recommended items:
1. They love to eat meat and anything that is meat-based proves appropriate. You may also want to give your pets cooked fish.
2. Cooked chicken is also a delightful treat for ferrets. This provision also works well with cooked chicken, hearts and liver.
3. Premium food preparations are basically the first choices as ferret food. These items are usually vitamin fortified to meet the daily requirements of ferrets.
4. Dry foods or the ones in pellet form are best choices for ferrets. They love to munch on anything crunchy and dry foods are much easier for ferrets to digest.
On the contrary, there are things that you do not give your ferrets. This list includes sweets, dog food and dairy. Too much chocolate or sugary-based treats are absolutely not good for ferrets. Meanwhile, dairy products can be actual causes of certain ferret illnesses.
So, the next time you ask yourself what do ferrets eat, it is best to do a bit of research. It also pays to consult someone who has been dealing with ferrets. Veterinarians and breeders are also potential advisers. Friends and family members may also help you in coming up with proper answers.
Primarily, what you give your pets or provide them with spells a major difference. For all you realize, your choices do not meet their dietary requirements. What do ferrets eat often speaks of choices that is low in fiber and high in protein. For these are the very sources of your ferret’s energy and strength.
